Description
The Calvet chair, designed by the prominent architect Antoni Gaudí for the Casa Calvet in Barcelona, is an iconic piece that reflects his timeless creativity. This design, made in 1902, shows a unique combination of organic shapes and carved details that make the chair a work of art. With a trapezoidal back, it is notable for its intricate craftsmanship and the elegant central motif that decorates its back. The chair has a slender shape thanks to its trapezoidal structure, and its circular geometries and the coffee beans embedded in the backrest add a special sophistication.
The seat is cleverly designed with five aligned holes that prevent the user from slipping, while the unique support merges the seat with the backrest in a fluid and robust manner. Made from five pieces of solid oak, the chair is characterized by its slenderness and delicate balance between solidity and apparent fragility. The tapered legs, which extend like hands, complement the elegance of its design.
Today it remains a testament to Gaudí’s mastery and legacy, uniting art and functionality in a single piece.
