Description

This drawing of the west wall of El Capricho, a poster copy of Hiroya Tanaka’s original, offers a different and complementary perspective of the work. The technical and artistic plan is concentrated on one side of the building, allowing a detailed appreciation of the interaction between the main façade and the cylindrical tower.
The drawing presents the façade in a profile view, highlighting the marked horizontality of the building, which is interrupted by the verticality of the cylindrical tower. The brick cladding, alternating with glazed ceramic bands, creates a rhythmic visual pattern. In the drawing, one can appreciate the use of sunflower ceramic tiles, a decorative element that is repeated in the facade bands, adding a touch of color and vitality. The tower, rising like an oriental minaret, is the focal point of the composition. At its top, the lattice structure that serves as a lookout can be seen. The drawing highlights the top of the tower with its sinuous forms, which integrate organically with the rest of the building.
This drawing is not just an architectural plan; it is a work of art in itself. It is a manifestation of Gaudi’s vision, a representation of how nature, light and fantasy come together to create a masterpiece of Modernism. In Hiroya Tanaka’s stroke, El Capricho reveals its soul: a building that transcends its function to become a visual story, a monument to creativity and imagination that has endured through time.
