Description

This tile, found in the Barbey House in La Garriga, is one of the most representative creations of the architect Joaquim Raspall i Mayol. It is a clear exponent of Catalan Modernism, where nature becomes the main source of inspiration, fusing geometric precision with organic exuberance.
The design of the tile focuses on a large stylized flower that occupies almost the entire piece, evoking a sunflower or a chrysanthemum. The flower’s central core features a grid pattern that brings a geometric note to the design, while the petals, in vibrant white and yellow, unfold in a radial fashion. On the sides, curvilinear shapes in blue and stylized leaves are seen in the corners, connecting with other tiles to form a visual “carpet”. The color palette is rich and lively, characteristic of Modernism. Raspall uses a combination of deep yellow and orange in the center of the flower, symbolizing sun and energy, with shades of blue, green and white in the petals and leaves. The pale pink background highlights the central pattern, creating a strong contrast that draws the eye and generates a sense of luminosity.
