Description
Casa Calvet, located on Casp Street in Barcelona, was Antoni Gaudí’s first residential project and received the prize for the best building of 1900 awarded by the Barcelona City Council. In 1902, the architect designed a set of carved oak furniture for the first floor offices, manufactured by the firm Casa y Bardés.
One of the most emblematic elements of this set is the Calvet mirror, designed by Gaudí in 1902 for the Calvet House. This mirror is not only a functional object, but a true work of art. Its frame, covered with thin sheets of gilded brass, gives it a fluid and organic texture, reflecting the innovative spirit of the modernist architect.
It is manufactured in two versions: solid oak varnished with a waxed satin finish, which enhances the natural warmth of the wood, or gilded with gold leaf, faithfully following the original design. Each mirror is a numbered reproduction and comes with a certificate of authenticity, guaranteeing its fidelity to the original model.
Beyond its practical function, the Calvet mirror acts as a sculpture that captures light and attention, conveying Gaudí’s expansive creativity. Its design, free of straight lines and full of undulating forms, is an example of the architect’s mastery of organic aesthetics.
