Description

The Calvet 2-3 seater bench, made of solid oak, stands out for its elaborate ornamental carving, with a backrest formed by three large flowers surrounded by three other floral motifs. The union between the backrest and the armrests is completely cantilevered, which gives it a feeling of lightness and slenderness, despite its generous dimensions. Its decorative beauty makes it a piece of great interest. Originally, this bench adorned the boardroom of the Casa Calvet, located on the first floor of the building. With an ornamentally rich design, the solid oak canapé contrasts with the sobriety of the building’s structure. The anatomically cared for backrest is decorated with floral motifs, with a set of three flowers arranged in a triangular shape standing out in particular. The bench is a clear example of the style of Antoni Gaudí, who designed it for the Casa Calvet in 1902. The Calvet Bench combines the complexity of ornamental carving with the smooth curves of a varnished oak structure, highlighting Gaudi’s appreciation for quality and material. The handmade bench seats two to three people, and is supported by four slender legs. The fluid structure joins the back to the seat and curves into undulating armrests, while intricate floral carvings bring symmetry to the piece, highlighting its elegance and balanced proportions.
