Description
The tile of the Casa Puig i Cadafalch in Argentona and the Casa Coll i Regàs in Mataró, is a clear exponent of Catalan Modernism, a movement that its architect embraced with mastery. This work reflects the architect’s own personal vision for his summer residence, fusing the functionality of a pavement with the decorative richness and attention to detail typical of his style.
The tile design of this house is characterized by its elegance and sobriety, without the exuberance of the architect’s other Modernist buildings. They are based on geometric and repetitive patterns, often with a central motif repeated in a grid. The shapes, though simple, create a visual rhythm that unifies the spaces and provides a harmonious backdrop for the furnishings and decor. The color palette used in the Argentona and Mataró house is delicate and in keeping with its function as a summer residence. Warm tones, such as oranges, ochres and earth tones, are combined with softer colors, such as blues and greens, evoking the Mediterranean landscape. This chromatic choice contributes to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
As a whole, this tile is a work that demonstrates Puig i Cadafalch’s mastery in the integration of craftsmanship in architecture. It is a manifestation of the most personal and functional Modernism, where beauty is found in the simplicity of forms and the harmony of colors.
